This case study details how Momentum Worldwide, a division of IPG, partnered with D-Wave to enhance the planning of extensive marketing tours using quantum computing. The project involved coordinating four tours across 80 events at 40 stores, each with specific logistical constraints such as store size and ecological impact. The collaboration aimed to solve a complex routing problem, akin to the traveling salesperson challenge, to optimize tour routes efficiently. D-Wave's quantum cloud service significantly reduced the time required to generate viable itineraries, producing 1,600 potential solutions in under an hour, including 100 fully optimized routes. The optimized itineraries adhered to Momentum's stringent requirements, addressing challenges that traditional methods struggled to manage. Following this success, Momentum's Global CTO expressed interest in further developing quantum computing applications for routine event planning and exploring its potential benefits across other business areas.
