Lincoln University Wireless Network Upgrade Case Study

This case study details Lincoln University's initiative to enhance its campus wireless network infrastructure to meet the evolving connectivity needs of its students and faculty. The university, founded in 1854, has a student body of 2,200 and a faculty and staff of 500, all of whom require reliable internet access across its 422-acre campus. The study outlines the challenges faced due to an outdated wireless infrastructure that could not support the demands of modern devices and online learning, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The university opted for a solution from Extreme Networks, deploying ExtremeCloud IQ and Wi-Fi 6 access points to improve network performance and coverage. The results included a more stable network with increased visibility and reduced management workload, leading to a significant reduction in operating costs. Future plans involve extending coverage to additional campus areas and supporting new initiatives such as an esports team, ensuring comprehensive wireless access for all university activities.
