This case study details the development of a large district cooling substation for the Stockmann department store in Helsinki, Finland. The substation, manufactured by Danfoss LPM, is noted as the largest factory-made district cooling substation in Finland, produced between January and February 2008. It was designed to supply air ventilation and cooling for the store's cold storage space. The project required careful planning due to limited underground space, necessitating collaboration between the contractor, the department store, and the energy plant. The substation features specific technical specifications, including dimensions of 15m in length, 6.5m in width, and 3.5m in height, with a capacity of 7745 kW. The project involved customized solutions tailored to the customer's requirements, highlighting the importance of professional planning and manufacturing. Following the successful installation, another cooling substation was ordered, demonstrating ongoing collaboration and the need for detailed planning in constrained environments.
