This case study details the data integration project undertaken by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Queensland Section in collaboration with Data#3. The objective was to modernize their operations by integrating disparate data sources related to aircraft, patients, and crew to enhance service efficiency. The RFDS faced significant challenges due to their operations in remote areas with limited connectivity, which necessitated a shift from manual processes to automated systems. The project involved the implementation of Microsoft Azure Functions to streamline data management and improve real-time access to critical information. Key outcomes included the establishment of an Operations Control Centre, which provided enhanced situational awareness and faster response times for medical retrievals. The integration of systems allowed for better decision-making by staff under time pressure, ultimately leading to improved patient care. The collaborative effort between RFDS, Data#3, and Lynkz resulted in a more efficient operational model, showcasing the importance of technology in emergency healthcare services.
