National Data Quality Improvement Service Overview

This document is a technical report detailing the National Data Quality Improvement Service (NDQIS) initiated by Datactics in collaboration with the UK Home Office to enhance crime classification and reporting across UK police forces. The project began in 2019 and aims to automate the crime reporting process, addressing the challenges posed by manual data handling and the legal obligations of constabularies to report accurate crime statistics. The report outlines the phased approach taken to develop the NDQIS, including the creation of a proof of concept with Derbyshire police, integration with existing police record management systems, and the implementation of a scrum-based project management methodology. Key features of the system include self-service data quality capabilities for subject matter experts, automated crime record corrections, and enhanced data matching accuracy. The report also discusses the successful rollout of the system to all UK police forces and the ongoing opportunities for innovation and application of machine learning in data management.
