This case study details the implementation of the Magellan 9800i scanner/scale at JC's Supermarket Swords, an independent grocery outlet in Dublin. The supermarket faced challenges with its previous point-of-sale setup, which involved separate scanner and weighing scale units, leading to decreased productivity and customer engagement. To address these issues, JC's Supermarket sought a solution that would allow staff to maintain contact with customers during the checkout process. The Magellan 9800i was chosen for its integrated design, enabling simultaneous scanning and weighing of items. This innovation improved workflow efficiency and enhanced customer service by allowing cashiers to focus on interactions rather than turning away to weigh items. The results included increased checkout speed, better customer relationships, and a reduction in the number of checkout lanes from 21 to 18, allowing staff to assist more effectively on the shop floor. Overall, the implementation of the new system has contributed positively to the supermarket's operational flexibility and customer satisfaction.
