This case study details how Petrol Industries, a retail company based in the Netherlands, improved its order picking process through the implementation of automated systems. Initially a belt manufacturer, the company expanded into clothing and faced logistical challenges due to rapid growth, necessitating an overhaul of its logistics systems. The old warehouse was inadequate, leading to chaotic processes and data entry errors. To address these issues, Petrol Industries partnered with ItSuitsIT for software solutions and utilized Datalogic's Skorpio X3 mobile computers for hardware. The new system streamlined operations by automating order picking, allowing operators to efficiently log in, select orders, and navigate to pick locations. The results included a 20% increase in picking performance within two months, improved data accuracy, and enhanced tracking of logistics processes. This implementation exemplifies how technology can optimize operations in the retail sector, particularly in order fulfillment.
