This technical report outlines the implementation of RFID technology at Johnson Controls to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of seat production for vehicles. The report details the challenges faced by Johnson Controls as a just-in-time supplier, particularly the need for precise loading of seats onto trucks in accordance with orders from NUMMI. It describes the previous reliance on manual systems, which led to human errors and potential production delays. The transition to RFID was motivated by the desire to eliminate these errors and improve operational reliability. The report explains the installation of the HMS RFID system for truck seat production and the use of read-only tags for car seat production. It highlights how the RFID system allows for real-time tracking and verification of seat modifications, ensuring that only the necessary adjustments are made at each production station. Additionally, the report emphasizes the safety features integrated into the system to prevent errors during the modification process.
