This case study details the migration of CritiCall Ontario's healthcare services to Amazon Web Services (AWS) with the assistance of AWS Partner Datavail. CritiCall Ontario provides a phone-based emergency consultation and referral service for hospital-based physicians. The organization faced challenges with its existing on-premises infrastructure, particularly as its Microsoft BizTalk middleware was nearing end of life. The migration aimed to enhance operational efficiency, scalability, and data management capabilities. Utilizing AWS services such as Amazon Aurora, Amazon Fargate, and Amazon S3, CritiCall was able to modernize its architecture, significantly reducing update timelines and improving data handling. The transition was executed with minimal disruption, allowing CritiCall to maintain its critical services for over 14 million residents in Ontario. The case study also highlights the benefits of the AWS Migration Acceleration Program, which facilitated the modernization process without requiring additional funding from the Ministry of Health.
