This case study details the implementation of the WAVE communications interoperability platform by the Canadian Pacific Police Service (CPPS) to enhance push-to-talk (PTT) communication across its extensive 14,000-mile railway network. The CPPS faced significant challenges due to the vast geographical area it covers, which resulted in interoperability issues among different carriers. The need for a reliable communication system was paramount, as the CPPS handles over 150,000 calls annually and requires seamless communication for safety and operational efficiency. The WAVE solution allowed for PTT communication over existing cellular and Wi-Fi networks, improving collaboration among officers and enabling communication across the U.S.-Canada border. The case study outlines the testing and successful deployment of WAVE, highlighting its benefits such as increased collaboration, enhanced safety, and improved resource management through GPS tracking. The CPPS's experience illustrates the importance of having a flexible and scalable communication system that meets the unique needs of law enforcement in a large operational area.
