This research article presents mixed-method and experimental evidence regarding the effects of children with troubles on working poor families, specifically those participating in the New Hope anti-poverty initiative in Milwaukee. The study identifies that a significant percentage of these families, approximately sixty percent, have at least one child facing substantial issues such as learning difficulties, behavioral problems, or disabilities. The findings indicate that families in the control group experienced more challenges in maintaining their daily routines compared to those in the New Hope experimental group. The article discusses how the pressures of raising children with troubles can lead to increased workloads for parents, financial burdens, and reliance on extended family networks. It also highlights the lack of existing literature focusing on low-income families compared to middle-class families, suggesting that the unique challenges faced by working poor families require further exploration. The study aims to understand how these families sustain their routines amidst various socio-economic pressures.
