This research article examines the effects of the Retirement and Re-employment Act (RRA) on retirement rates and health outcomes among older workers in Singapore, utilizing data from the Retirement and Health Study (RHS). The RHS is a longitudinal survey that includes a representative sample of individuals aged 45 to 85. The study found that the RRA significantly decreased retirement rates, particularly among men, and had varying impacts across different occupational groups. Additionally, the analysis revealed that retirement led to increased healthcare utilization, particularly among retired men, who experienced higher polyclinic costs and healthcare visits. The research also explored the relationship between job satisfaction prior to retirement and subsequent health outcomes, indicating that higher job satisfaction was associated with poorer health post-retirement. The findings underscore the importance of understanding the dynamics of retirement and health to inform policies aimed at supporting older workers.
