This case study outlines the application of the Denso Covercoat System for protecting steel column bases from corrosion. Corrosion at the base of columns can compromise the structural integrity and longevity of buildings and infrastructure. The case study highlights the challenges faced due to deficiencies in surface preparation, which led to grit interference and exacerbated corrosion issues. Despite attempts to mitigate these problems through regular reapplication of surface-tolerant epoxy, the need for a reevaluation of surface preparation methods became evident. The Denso Covercoat System, which includes components such as Denso Hi-Tack Primer, Denso Profiling Mastic, and Archco 15 topcoat, was recommended as a solution. This system requires minimal surface preparation according to SSPC-SP-1, 2, or 3 standards and offers a long service life with minimal maintenance. The study emphasizes the system's efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness, providing a protective solution that can last over 30 years with reduced downtime.
