This case study details the installation of a firewater pipeline at an oil terminal located in the Gulf Coast. The objective was to protect the pipeline from corrosion to ensure its functionality in the event of a catastrophic fire disaster. The project involved the protection of several hundred flanges and valves, which ranged from 4” to 20” in diameter. The Denso Petrolatum Tape System was specified for corrosion prevention, consisting of Denso Paste, Denso Profiling Mastic, Densyl Tape, and Denso Glass Outerwrap. The application process began with the Denso Paste, which serves as a primer, followed by the Profiling Mastic to smooth out irregular surfaces. The Densyl Tape was then applied to seal out moisture and oxygen. The outerwrap, Denso Glass, provides mechanical protection and cures quickly. The project was completed ahead of schedule, ensuring operational readiness and long-term corrosion prevention for the firewater line.
