This case study details an offshore pipelay project undertaken by a Malaysia-based oil and gas exploration and production company, published in 2024. The project aimed to develop three offshore gas fields in Southeast Asia and was executed by a global Offshore Installation Contractor. It involved the construction of two sour-rated carbon steel pipelines, including an 11.1 mi (18 km) run of 10-inch diameter pipe and a 13.6 mi (22 km) run of 12-inch diameter pipe, designed to operate at a temperature of 228°F (109°C). The project utilized the innovative Viscotaq Offshore Field Joint Coating system, which consists of multiple protective layers. Rigorous testing confirmed that the system met international standards, demonstrating excellent performance in terms of application speed and durability. The project was completed ahead of schedule, resulting in significant cost savings and highlighting the effectiveness of the Viscotaq system in offshore applications.
