This technical report quantifies the annual energy footprint of artificial intelligence (AI) usage in businesses across all 50 U.S. states. It presents various metrics, including the total number of businesses per state, the AI adoption rate, the number of businesses using AI, and the average number of employees per business. The report details how the total employees using AI are estimated by multiplying the number of AI-using businesses by the average number of employees per business. Additionally, it outlines the methodology for calculating the annual energy consumption attributed to AI, which is based on the daily energy consumption per employee using AI.
