Generative Artificial Intelligence in Canadian Post-Secondary Education

This report, produced by the Canadian Digital Learning Research Association, examines the perspectives of faculty members and administrators regarding Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Canadian post-secondary education. The research, based on the Pan-Canadian Digital Learning Survey conducted in Spring 2023, involved responses from 438 participants across 126 institutions. The findings indicate that the development of AI policies at these institutions is still in the early stages. Faculty and administrators express a range of opinions about AI, including optimism and concern, with its use being largely experimental and inconsistent. Recommendations for institutional leaders include enhancing communication about AI policies, fostering environments for responsible AI use, and engaging in discussions about ethical AI practices. The report also emphasizes the need for ongoing dialogue about the implications of AI in education and suggests the creation of a comprehensive database of AI-related regulations and guidelines.
