This case study focuses on the Croatian mountain rescue service (HGSS) and its use of Determ to enhance rescue missions and communication efforts. The HGSS is a national, voluntary association established 72 years ago, comprising over 1100 volunteers. The study features insights from Jadran Kapović, the Head of HGSS’ Information and Analytics Committee, who highlights the challenges faced by the organization in monitoring digital media compared to traditional media. The implementation of Determ proved beneficial during significant events, such as the Trending #HGSS70 tweet exhibition and a notable dog rescue mission. The tool provided valuable data and reports that documented media coverage and social media presence, contributing to the organization's recognition with awards. Additionally, the ability to receive spike alerts allowed HGSS to prepare press materials proactively, resulting in extensive media coverage. The case study concludes with remarks on the measurable benefits of using Determ for justifying their work and adjusting communication strategies based on performance data.
