This whitepaper presents a technical discussion on the integration complexity of the Non-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller (Non-RT RIC) within the O-RAN architecture. The Non-RT RIC aims to enhance intelligence and programmability in Radio Access Networks (RAN) by allowing third-party applications to manage and optimize radio resources. The document outlines a Proof of Concept (PoC) initiated by Deutsche Telekom, in collaboration with AirHop, Juniper Networks, VIAVI Solutions, and VMware, to evaluate the technical integration challenges in a multi-vendor environment. The PoC assessed the customization required and the maturity of the products involved, while also identifying potential future standardization requirements. The whitepaper details the setup and testing approach of the PoC, highlighting the integration challenges and customizations necessary for successful deployment. It concludes with an outlook on key focus areas for collaboration within the ecosystem, including certification initiatives and operational concepts to facilitate the transition of Non-RT RIC and rApp development from laboratory settings to production readiness.
