DreamBox Reading Plus Impact on ELA Growth

This research brief presents findings from a study conducted by McREL International, which examines the relationship between the use of DreamBox Reading Plus and student performance on the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY). The study aims to determine how the program's usage correlates with students' growth in English Language Arts (ELA) outcomes, particularly among subgroups such as students with special designations. The results indicate that completing 80 lessons in DreamBox Reading Plus is associated with significantly higher growth in SC READY scores across various demographics, including achievement levels, race, and gender. The analysis involved 9,319 K-8 students and utilized multilevel modeling to assess the impact of lesson completion on standardized test scores. The findings suggest that increased usage of DreamBox Reading Plus leads to a greater likelihood of meeting or exceeding the Added Value Target (AVT) for students, particularly those with special designations, thereby highlighting the program's effectiveness in personalizing reading support for diverse learners.
