This case study discusses the implementation of the Reading Plus program at Henderson Collegiate Middle School, a public charter school located in Henderson, North Carolina. The school serves 1,333 students and faces various challenges, particularly in providing differentiated reading instruction to a diverse student demographic, including a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced lunch. The school adopted Reading Plus to facilitate virtual learning, enabling students to engage with the curriculum independently. The implementation involved pre-recorded instructional videos, active support from teachers, and consistent communication with families. As a result, by May 2021, the school recorded a notable improvement in student reading levels, with significant gains in fluency and comprehension. The program encouraged students to complete multiple assignments weekly, fostering a culture of engagement and celebration of academic achievements. Overall, the initiative reflects a strategic approach to enhancing literacy in a challenging educational environment.
