This case study outlines the digital transformation of infectious disease records management at the Florida Department of Health's Bureau of Communicable Diseases. The HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Section-Surveillance faced challenges with an older system that lacked functionality for document management and relied on manual data entry, resulting in a backlog of electronic document images. To address these issues, Docufree designed and implemented a digital capture process that automates the organization of incoming health records. The new document management solution is powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and includes end-user training for local offices in Florida. The implementation has led to increased efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with privacy laws such as HIPAA and PPACA. The transition from paper records to a digital system has resulted in cost savings and the reallocation of resources, while ensuring the protection of patient privacy and enhancing file retrieval and storage security.
