This case study outlines the digitization project undertaken by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in collaboration with Docufree. The objective was to preserve over 80 years of historical maps and drawings that were at risk of loss due to age and environmental factors. The documents were disorganized and cumbersome to access, leading to increased storage costs. Docufree provided a solution by digitizing the documents and customizing the digital file output for seamless integration into SCDOT's existing content management system. The project involved careful handling of delicate materials to ensure that every detail was preserved in its original form. As a result, SCDOT eliminated the need for a 30,000 square foot warehouse, reduced costs, and improved access to the documents for staff and customers. The digitization process has increased productivity and efficiency, enabling self-service for public records research.
