This case study outlines the implementation of Dura-Life filter bags at a flour mill, which resulted in significant energy cost savings. The mill, seeking to reduce energy usage and operating costs, switched to Dura-Life filter bags and installed a variable frequency drive (VFD) on the baghouse fan. The study details how the Dura-Life filter bags, known for their greater permeability and improved filtration efficiency, allowed for increased airflow from 5800 cfm to 6500 cfm. By adjusting the fan speed to match the original airflow benchmark, the mill achieved a reduction in amp draw from 31 amps to 21 amps. This change led to an annual energy savings of over $2,300 for just one baghouse. The mill manager reported a return on investment of only 19 days, and subsequent conversions to Dura-Life bags across all filters resulted in total savings of tens of thousands of dollars in energy costs each year.
