This case study details the implementation of Donaldson Torit Ultra-Web cartridge filters in a railroad manufacturing facility that uses a plasma cutter for cutting steel. The primary objective was to address the frequent maintenance issues associated with the previously installed Farr GoldCone filters, which required servicing every three weeks due to short filter life and high pressure drop. The Ultra-Web filters, featuring patented nanofibers, were introduced as a solution. The study outlines how these filters have significantly extended the service life, lasting eight times longer than the previous filters, while also reducing the pressure drop in the dust collector. Consequently, this has led to lower energy consumption and decreased maintenance time, resulting in fewer filter purchases and reduced production downtime. The maintenance manager reported satisfaction with the performance improvements, highlighting the effectiveness of the Ultra-Web filters in enhancing operational efficiency in the metalworking industry.
