This case study details the challenges faced by E.ON’s Nordic division regarding its data infrastructure, which was limiting operational efficiency and agility. The company struggled with slow query performance, with complex queries taking up to a week to complete, and faced issues with data freshness, as updates occurred only once per day. Additionally, there were significant barriers to data access due to sensitive information, and a divide between IT and business units hindered collaboration. To address these issues, E.ON implemented Dremio’s Unified Lakehouse Platform, which replaced their existing database systems with a more flexible data lake. The integration of Dremio with dbt allowed for streamlined data transformations, improving query performance and enabling self-service analytics. As a result, E.ON achieved a 95% reduction in time-to-insight, with queries completing in approximately 10 minutes. Data freshness improved significantly, allowing updates every 15 minutes, which facilitated timely analysis and enhanced operational efficiency.
