This case study evaluates the performance of Synergex LA amine additive in a semisynthetic metalworking fluid formulation compared to a conventional amine combination. The study involved formulating two samples, 405A and 405B, with similar components to ensure a fair comparison. Testing included foam performance, cast iron chip corrosion resistance, emulsion stability, aluminum stain testing, microbial resistance, and pH stability. Results indicated that sample 405B, which included Synergex LA and Amietol M12, exhibited better emulsion stability, improved ferrous corrosion resistance, and a slight enhancement in pH stability compared to sample 405A. Although significant improvements in microbial resistance were not reported, the data suggested effective microbial control with modest levels of ortho-phenylphenol in combination with Synergex LA. The findings support the potential benefits of using Synergex LA in metalworking fluid formulations.
