This case study evaluates the effectiveness of Synergex™ T amine additive as a replacement for diisopropanolamine (DIPA) and diglycolamine (DGA) in semisynthetic metalworking fluid formulations. The study begins with pH measurements of 0.5% solutions of DIPA, DGA, Synergex T, and MIPA, revealing that Synergex T has a pH value similar to DIPA, indicating its potential as a substitute. The case study also includes cost analysis, showing competitive pricing for the amines involved. Formulations were developed to assess performance properties, focusing on foam stability, corrosion protection, and aluminum stain testing. Results indicate that Synergex T can effectively replace DIPA without significant issues, while MIPA serves as a suitable substitute for DGA. The findings suggest that formulators can achieve similar pH levels and performance characteristics with these replacements, promoting the use of Synergex T due to its low odor and biostability benefits.
