This case study details the collaboration between BASF and Eaton to upgrade the lighting system at BASF's Geismar, LA facility. The existing lighting setup was inefficient, operating at full brightness 24/7, which prompted BASF to seek a solution that would enhance safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Eaton proposed the Champ VMVL LED Intelligent Lighting control system, which includes features such as intelligent scheduling, occupancy sensing, and daylight harvesting. The implementation of this system resulted in significant benefits, including a 65% reduction in total energy costs and a potential decrease of 1,220 tons in CO2 emissions annually for a typical installation of 2,000 fixtures. The Champ fixtures are designed to perform reliably in hazardous environments, meeting necessary safety standards. Additionally, the Brightlayer Lighting software supports secure management of the lighting system, aligning with BASF's operational needs and sustainability goals.
