This case study details the implementation of Nalco Water's FloteFeed G2 technology in a Queensland coking coal producer's coal flotation circuit. The objective was to enhance flotation kinetics and improve coal recovery in Coal Handling and Preparation Plants (CHPPs). The study outlines the operational challenges faced, including the limitations of traditional frothers and the need for increased flotation efficiency. Following the installation of FloteFeed G2 units, significant improvements were observed, including a 2.5% increase in primary flotation yield and a 7.7% increase in secondary flotation yield, resulting in an additional 42,778 saleable tonnes of coal. The report quantifies the financial benefits, noting an annual increase in sales of approximately $18 million and a reduction in frother usage costs. Additionally, the study highlights the environmental impact of reduced tailings and improved operational efficiency, contributing to the overall profitability of the CHPP.
