This case study outlines the initiatives taken by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Tourism to enhance its tourism sector through digital transformation, specifically focusing on the implementation of EDB Postgres technology. The Ministry aims to attract 100 million international tourists by 2030, increasing the sector's GDP contribution from 3% to 10% and creating one million jobs. To achieve these goals, the Ministry established a Digital Transformation and Information Technology (DTIT) team, which partnered with EDB to create a high-availability open-source environment. This partnership enabled the Ministry to efficiently process electronic documents and manage data-driven tasks, minimizing disruptions. The implementation of EDB Postgres technology has led to significant performance enhancements, with zero outages reported since the deployment. The Ministry's efforts have resulted in the early achievement of its tourism goals, positioning Saudi Arabia as one of the fastest-growing tourism markets globally. The DTIT continues to expand the use of Postgres to support ongoing tourism initiatives aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
