Te Rito Electronic Student Record Project Overview

This document is a technical report detailing the Te Rito electronic student record project initiated by the New Zealand Ministry of Education. The project aims to enhance information sharing among schools to improve educational outcomes for learners. It addresses challenges faced by the education system in New Zealand, where over 2,500 schools operate independently, leading to difficulties in accessing student data when learners transfer between schools. The report outlines the Ministry's procurement process, which began in 2018, to select a technology solution that could centralize and securely share data for over 800,000 learners. The chosen platform, Edsby and its Unison data system, was customized to meet the Ministry's needs. The document emphasizes the importance of safeguarding student data and maintaining privacy, detailing the project's adherence to the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) and ongoing security measures. It also highlights the project's expansion to include features that promote collaboration and community engagement within schools, with over 200 schools already participating since its launch in September 2023.
