This case study details the implementation of eHealth Connect Image Exchange by Rochester RHIO, a Regional Health Information Organization. The initiative aimed to enhance the accessibility of diagnostic-quality medical images for approximately 7,000 physicians across over 400 practices in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions of New York. Prior to this implementation, healthcare professionals faced challenges accessing patient images from multiple disconnected databases, leading to inefficiencies and delays in patient care. The eHealth Connect solution integrated seamlessly with existing Health Information Exchange (HIE) frameworks, allowing for near-instantaneous access to imaging exams from various radiology centers. The implementation has significantly improved the timeliness of patient care, reduced unnecessary imaging procedures, and minimized the risk of medical errors. The case study highlights the positive impact of rapid image access on clinical decision-making and patient safety, demonstrating the effectiveness of the eHealth Connect system in streamlining image sharing processes.
