This technical report presents an analysis of supplemental benefits utilization among enrollees of Elevance Health’s affiliated Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. The study focuses on the uptake of these benefits, particularly those addressing health-related social needs (HRSN), and includes data from 861,657 MA beneficiaries across 24 states. The report outlines the methodology used to assess the utilization of 36 out of 42 offered supplemental benefits, emphasizing the demographic characteristics of the members involved. It details the significant uptake rates, with 83 percent of dual eligible individuals and 75 percent of non-dual eligible individuals utilizing at least one supplemental benefit in 2022. The findings indicate that a substantial portion of enrollees, particularly those in resource-limited areas, are benefiting from these supplemental offerings. The report also discusses the regulatory changes that have allowed for the expansion of supplemental benefits to better address the diverse health needs of the Medicare population.
