This case study documents the implementation of Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology in a premium automotive manufacturer's burden carrier fleet. The objective was to enhance productivity and reduce downtime associated with charging. The fleet, consisting of 40 electric burden carriers, transitioned from conventional flooded lead acid batteries to NexSys TPPL batteries. The study outlines the performance improvements observed after the switch, including a 139% increase in productivity and an 80% reduction in charge time. The TPPL batteries, which are virtually maintenance-free and capable of fast charging, demonstrated significant advantages over traditional batteries. Data collected over a month showed that NexSys TPPL batteries provided 3,283 amp hours compared to 1,376 amp hours from flooded batteries, illustrating their superior performance. The findings indicate that the TPPL technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also extends battery life, with the first unit surpassing four years of service. This case study serves as a detailed examination of the benefits of adopting advanced battery technology in industrial applications.
