This case study outlines the implementation of Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology by a regional supermarket chain to improve productivity and reduce battery maintenance costs. The supermarket chain operates 150 retail locations and utilizes 300 narrow-aisle reach trucks. Previously, the trucks were powered by flooded lead acid batteries, which required extensive maintenance and were inefficient. The transition to NexSys® TPPL batteries, demonstrated through an onsite study and supported by EnerSys®, has streamlined operations. The EnSite™ modeling software was used to analyze the power requirements and compare costs, revealing that the TPPL solution would save each store approximately $11,000 over five years. The case study details the financial benefits, including reduced maintenance expenses and increased equipment uptime. The successful implementation has led to plans for expanding TPPL technology across additional stores and distribution centers, highlighting the significant operational improvements achieved through this upgrade.
