Retrospective Analysis of Incidental Lung Nodules

This technical report presents a retrospective analysis of incidental lung nodules to evaluate their prevalence and growth over one year. The study focuses on low- and moderate-risk patients, specifically those with nodules measuring less than 6mm and between 6-8mm. Data was collected from 170 facilities using the Eon dashboard, which extracted imaging data from radiology reports. The analysis included 6,380 qualifying patients, revealing that over 26% of patients with initially low- or moderate-risk nodules transitioned to a higher-risk category within a year. Additionally, the report highlights that more than 7% of patients moved from low-risk to high-risk status. The findings underscore the importance of monitoring lower-risk patients, as significant nodule growth was observed in this cohort. Recommendations for improving nodule program efficiency include automation of routine tasks and enhanced communication strategies to ensure timely evidence-based care.
