This scientific whitepaper presents a study evaluating the effects of noise reduction technology on conversation quality and efficiency during virtual communication. The research focuses on how background noise impacts conversation dynamics and the cognitive load required for effective communication. The study involved forty native-Danish speakers who participated in a collaborative task using a Unified Communications Platform while wearing IMPACT 1000 headsets. Participants engaged in a 'spot the difference' task under varying noise conditions to assess the influence of noise reduction on listening effort, concentration, and conversation efficiency. The methodology included subjective questionnaires and objective measures of conversational dynamics, such as turn-taking and speech detection. The findings aim to provide insights into how noise suppression can enhance communication in noisy environments, thereby improving the overall experience of virtual interactions. This research contributes to the development of audio solutions that support cognitive performance in challenging sound environments.
