Systems Analysis of Vulnerability and Resilience Dynamics

This technical report presents a systems analysis of vulnerability and resilience dynamics related to violent extremism in Northern Côte d’Ivoire. Conducted by Indigo Côte d’Ivoire and Equal Access International, the study focuses on the Bounkani, Tchologo, Bagoué, and Folon regions. The methodology employed participatory action research, engaging local communities to diagnose contextual dynamics. The report outlines specific dynamics observed in the Bounkani region, including tensions between the Koulango and Lobi communities, and the stigmatization of the Fulani community. It details the impact of insecurity and the community's responses, highlighting the role of rumors and the militarized institutional response. The Tchologo region is noted for its proximity to the Comoé National Park and its history of jihadist attacks. The report aims to document the complex interplay of social tensions and security challenges, emphasizing the need for community-driven solutions to enhance resilience against violent extremism.
