This case study details the development of a dynamic bus stop management system in Hamburg by Materna as part of the GAIA-X 4 ROMS research project. The objective is to create a scalable solution for enhancing mobility services through the effective use of existing transport infrastructure, specifically bus stops. The project involves the creation of an attractiveness index for bus stops, which evaluates their suitability for on-demand shuttle services. This index is based on various parameters, including availability and environmental factors, and is visualized in a dashboard for easy comprehension by decision-makers. Additionally, a web application facilitates the process of suggesting and approving bus stops for use in a virtual booking system called SmaLa. The integration of data from public transport operators and the Materna Data Factory ensures that the system operates in a Gaia-X-compliant manner, allowing for data-driven decisions in urban transport management.
