This case study details the implementation of the AtkinsRéalis Spatial Common Data Environment (SpatialCDE), which utilizes Esri technology to enhance biodiversity net gain (BNG) strategies within the construction industry. The document outlines the challenges faced by developers in adhering to the Environment Act 2021, which mandates BNG for construction projects. It highlights the need for accurate and timely data across multidisciplinary teams, which the SpatialCDE addresses by providing a standardized geospatial approach. The solution integrates various tools, including ArcGIS Field Maps and Portal for ArcGIS, to streamline workflows and improve data management. The case study presents tangible benefits, such as significant cost savings, improved decision-making, and enhanced collaboration among project teams. It also notes that the platform is compliant with ISO 19650 and BIM Level 2 standards. The findings indicate that the SpatialCDE has the potential to increase biodiversity gains significantly while reducing environmental impacts during construction.
