This research report outlines the employment and social situation of young people in the Western Balkans, specifically in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia, as well as in Türkiye. It highlights the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on this demographic, which has faced disruptions in education and increased job loss. The report discusses the European Commission's growth plan for the region, aimed at enhancing socioeconomic convergence and providing financial support. It details the commitment of the WB6 governments to implement Youth Guarantee schemes to combat youth joblessness and social exclusion. The findings indicate that youth employment rates are lower than the overall working-age population, with notable disparities between genders. The report also examines job quality and working conditions, revealing challenges such as high work intensity and mental well-being issues among young people. Policy recommendations are provided to improve employment measures and support for youth in the region.
