This document is a technical report on the Digital Euro pilot, which is set to commence in the second half of 2027 and will last for 12 months. The pilot will take place in a controlled environment within the Eurosystem and will involve real-world transactions using a beta version of the digital euro, which does not have legal tender status. Participation will be limited to selected payment service providers (PSPs), merchants, and Eurosystem staff, with the selection process for PSPs beginning in March 2026. The pilot aims to validate four specific use cases while continuously collecting and applying feedback to optimize the digital euro. The Eurosystem will provide a digital euro service platform to support stakeholders, enabling the issuance and redemption of the digital euro. The report outlines the timeline for the pilot phases, including the call for expression of interest and the expected completion of the pilot by the end of 2028.
