This research report investigates the effects of the Understanding Mental Wellness course on students in grades 8 to 10. The course aims to enhance mental health literacy and coping strategies among adolescents, addressing the gender gap in mental health needs. The report presents findings from a study that assessed changes in help-seeking intentions and skill confidence among students after completing the course. Results indicate that students reported positive changes in their likelihood to seek help for themselves or others, with no significant differences between gender categories. Additionally, the gap in skill confidence between male and female-identifying students was significantly reduced, with female-identifying students showing greater improvements in confidence related to coping skills and identifying signs of mental health risks. The study underscores the importance of mental wellness education in schools to foster better mental health outcomes for adolescents.
