This public notice outlines the schedule and procedures for TWW's annual fire hydrant inspections starting June 20 in West Trenton. The inspections will involve checking over 3,500 fire hydrants for mechanical operability and pressure to ensure fire protection. Residents are informed that these inspections may temporarily affect water quality, potentially causing discolored water or reduced pressure. Precautions are recommended for residents, particularly those at risk for Legionnaires' disease, including flushing taps after inspections and avoiding exposure to aerosolized water. Building owners and property managers are advised to review their water management plans and implement flushing protocols in case of water disruptions. Cooling tower operators are also instructed to maintain water quality and manage biocide levels to reduce Legionella risks. TWW is collaborating with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to enhance water treatment and distribution strategies, including a low-velocity flushing program initiated in April 2023.
