This case study details how Siemon, a multinational IT infrastructure provider based in Watertown, Connecticut, addressed its tax compliance challenges without a dedicated tax department. Financial executives Arleen Snyder and George Puglisi managed tax compliance activities, including transfer pricing, which had previously been outsourced. To gain more control and understanding of transfer pricing, they participated in Exactera's educational webinar series led by Chief Economist Mimi Song. The webinars covered fundamental concepts, methodologies, and compliance challenges. Following this training, Snyder and Puglisi shifted their business from external tax consultants to Exactera, enhancing their involvement in the compliance process. They learned to navigate various international regulations and became more knowledgeable about transfer pricing, which allowed them to manage compliance more effectively. The case study illustrates the importance of education in tax compliance and how it can empower financial controllers to take charge of their company's tax obligations.
