This document is a case study detailing the implementation of an engineered solution to reduce noise levels in a production environment. The objective of the application was to lower the noise level to less than 85 dBA. Prior to the implementation, a safety audit revealed that the average sound level exceeded 93 dBA, which was above the OSHA allowable limit for hearing protection. The existing blowoff gun did not meet OSHA’s dead end pressure standard. After installing the EXAIR Model 1210-CS Soft Grip Safety Air Gun with Model 1100 Super Air Nozzle and Chip Shield, the noise level was reduced by 19 dBA, averaging 74 dBA. This reduction not only complied with OSHA standards but also helped the customer avoid potential citations. The engineered solution also ensured that the nozzle maintained a dead end pressure of less than 30 PSI, providing additional safety for operators with the Chip Shield protecting against airborne debris.
