This case study outlines the application goal of replacing existing hand-held compressed air guns in an ophthalmic lens production facility. The customer aimed to reduce the sound level of these devices to below 85 dBA to comply with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.95(a) and to ensure safety by preventing the defeat of the dead-end pressure safety mechanism. Prior to the implementation of the new solution, the facility's hand-held blow guns operated at an average noise level of 90.7 dBA and had failed safety features, violating OSHA Standard 1910.242(b). After testing the Model 1210SS-CS Soft Grip Safety Air Gun with Chip Shield, the customer successfully reduced the sound level to 83.1 dBA at 110 PSIG, thus meeting the OSHA noise requirements. Additionally, the engineered design of the air nozzles ensured compliance with the 30 PSIG dead-end pressure requirement. The implementation of the Chip Shield further enhanced operator safety by protecting against flying debris.
