This document is a case study detailing the application of engineered air guns to reduce sound levels and maintain blow-off performance in a manufacturing facility. The objective was to replace inexpensive thumb guns that produced high noise levels during operation. Initial testing revealed that the thumb guns operated at 87 dBA with significant air consumption. After evaluating various models from EXAIR, three specific air guns were identified that not only reduced sound levels but also decreased air consumption. The VariBlast Compact Safety Air Gun achieved a sound level of 71 dBA, representing a 16 dBA reduction, while the Precision Safety Air Gun reached 68 dBA, with an 18 dBA reduction. The Heavy Duty Safety Air Gun also provided a sound level reduction to 74 dBA. Overall, the case study illustrates the effectiveness of using tailored engineered solutions over generic options to meet specific operational needs in a manufacturing environment.
