Knowledge Graph Development for Cultural Heritage Data

This technical report outlines the efforts of the NFDI4Culture consortium to establish a unified Knowledge Graph (KG) aimed at enhancing the discoverability and interoperability of cultural heritage research data. The report describes a pipeline designed for accessing and harvesting metadata from legacy repositories, addressing the challenges posed by diverse data silos across multiple cultural disciplines. It details the creation of a lightweight ontology that facilitates data integration and search capabilities. The document further explains the modular workflow components of the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) environment, which includes steps for data action, cleaning, updating, and analysis. The report emphasizes the importance of linking research data across various subject domains while ensuring that the data remains accessible and usable. By implementing a federated infrastructure and utilizing shared APIs, the NFDI4Culture-KG aims to overcome the limitations of traditional centralized systems, thereby improving the accessibility of cultural heritage data for research purposes.
